Protein

Monday, May 28th, 2007

For many years, there has been an emphasis in nutrtional science on getting enough protein. However, research shows that this emphasis has been misplaced. Rather than most people getting too little protein, Westerners eat two to three times more than they need. (more…)

A Diet of Excess

Most of the diseases that plague our society today, including heart disease, hypertension, cancer, osteoporosis, and diabetes, are closely connected to our dietary habits. Many people have a great horror of going out of doors for fear of taking cold.  If it is a little damp or a little windy, or a little cold, they wait and wait; meanwhile, weeks and even months may pass away and they never during that whole time breathe a single breath of pure air. (more…)

Habitat for Humanity Experience

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

My son’s company, Insureme, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity several days last winter. My son told me I would enjoy it, so I looked into it. I found out that I needed to go to an orientation first, which I did. It was very informative. I volunteered at the Aurora site in Denver, Colorado area for a day. There were different crews working on different homes. (more…)

Recipe for Genuine Italian Spaghetti Sauce

Monday, May 14th, 2007

When I was newly married back in the early 70’s, I made “home-made” spaghetti for my husband out of the Betty Crocker cookbook. It took a long time to make and I thought my husband would be very pleased. However, he did not like it at all and did not hesitate to tell me so. I was very hurt, but recovered quickly and took my Italian husband’s advice: go over to my mother’s house and learn how to make the real Italian sauce. Arthritis Remedy

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Here is a home remedy for arthritic joints:
Rub castor oil on the joint followed by hot compresses. This is a safe, inexpensive therapy and has been shown to help alot of people.
First, rub in the oil (which is very greasy, messy and smelly). Then apply a wet towel to the area, followed by a heating pad. (There is less mess if you first cover the wet towel with a plastic bag.) Be careful not to burn yourself.

A second thing that helps is eating cherries.

A third natural remedy is the following:
Add one tablespoon of liquid Certo (found with the canning products) to 8 ounces of purple grape juice. A small wisk works well to mix this. Drink on a daily basis.
