The Fall of Man

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

This morning I read about the Garden of Eden and the fall of man.  God planted a tree in the middle of the garden called the tree of “Good and Evil”.  The garden was full of beautiful trees, waterfalls, flowers, and animals.  The only thing Adam and Eve were instructed not to do was eat from the tree of Good and Evil.

The Bible says that the snake was the cleverest of all wild animals created by God.  Quickly, we find out just how clever the snake was as it engages in a conversation with Eve.  The snake said, “Did God really say that you must not eat fruit from any tree in the garden?”  Apparently this was not out of the ordinary as Eve simply responded, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden.  But God told us, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden. You must not even touch it, or you will die”.  The snake responded, “You will not die, God only forbid it because He knew you would become just like Him and know good and evil.”  (more…)

Enjoying Your Work

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

I sometimes feel guilty because I enjoy my work so much and often it is difficult for me to stop thinking about it.  I agree that it is very important to have a work life balance. This means when you are at work, work hard and enjoy it; however, when you go home, leave work at the office and enjoy time with your family.

This morning I read the following verse, which made me feel pretty good:

“I have seen what is best for people here on earth.  They should eat and drink and enjoy their work, because the life God has given them on earth is short.  God gives some people the ability to enjoy wealth and property he gives them, as well as the ability to accept their state in life and enjoy their work. They do not worry about how short life is, because God keeps them busy with what they love to do” Ecclesiastes 7:18-20. (more…)

Conclusion: Honor God

“Now, everything has been heard, so I give my final advice:  Honor God and obey his commands, because this is all people must do. God will judge everything, even what is done in secret, the good and the evil”  Ecclesiastes 12:13.

Ok - this isn’t exactly my favorite verse; however, it is verses like this that makes one feel they can never be saved.  One might ask, “How can this verse be true and I’m saved by grace?”  Good question.  (more…)
