My Neighbors, Jason and Tracie Dotson

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Yesterday I learned that my neighbor of six years, Jason Dotson, apparently murdered his wife, Tracie, and then committed suicide after a heated argument.  Jason and Tracie had moved away about nine months ago and we lost touch.  My wife learned about this event when watching the morning news.  We are both in complete shock.

Jason was an extremely gifted individual both intellectually and athletically.  They were both great neighbors, we watched each others’ kids, bowled together, played on the same basketball team, went to a Nuggets game and often had conversations in the yard.  We were very sad to see Jason and Tracie move. The Great Controversy

Friday, July 21st, 2006

I’m currently reading “The Great Controversy” by Ellen White.  This is an amazing book that takes you from the Dark Ages through the reformation and to the end times.    This morning I read about Wycliffe, a man who boldly stood up against popular beliefs.   The Dark Ages was a time when the Bible was almost completely extinguished and it was widely taught and accepted that you had to earn your way to heaven.  This belief drove the economy into poverty while the church leaders lived luxurious lifestyles.

Persecution

Monday, July 17th, 2006

“Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord.  If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.  John 15:20.

I read this morning that the church is not being persecuted because we have made so many compromises.  If the faith and power of the early church was revived, persecution would return.

In fact, it appears that many of us have compromised with the world.  Christianity has become popular because of it’s lack of godliness.

2 Timothy 3:12 says, “….all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution”.  Are you being persecuted?  If not, what does that mean?

“You Know That I Love You”

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

After Jesus’ resurrection he was sitting with his disciples on a beach around a small fire.  While sitting there, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him.  Each time Peter responded with a humble “yes”.  Each time Jesus asked, Peter felt more and more pain – as he wanted Jesus to believe that he truly did love Him.  Jesus asked three times, which was the same number of times that Peter denied Jesus.  Jesus asked Peter in front of the other disciples so that they would all see Peter’s repentance and fully accept him back into the group.  (more…)

He Will Forgive

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

Inviting Jesus

Monday, July 10th, 2006

After Jesus’ death, two disciples walked slowly from Jerusalem to Emmaus.  This was an eight mile journey.  Toward the beginning of their trek they were joined by a stranger.  This stranger was Jesus; however, the disciples didn’t realize it until they invited him into their house at the end of the journey.  Once in the house, Jesus raised his hands to bless the bread and that is when the disciples realized it was Jesus.  Instantly, Jesus vanished and the disciples scrambled to tell everyone the good news that Jesus was alive.  (more…)

Deception & Deceit

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

Satan and his evil angels gathered around Jesus’ tomb eager to keep Him restrained forever.  The one hundred soldiers stood guard to ensure the tomb was not disturbed.  It was Sunday morning when a heavenly angel appeared in a great earthquake and exclaimed, “Son of God, come forth”.  Satan’s evil angels fled for their lives and the soldiers fell over like dead men.  (more…)

Forgiveness and the Sabbath Rest

Friday, July 7th, 2006

During Jesus’ last hour on the cross, the surrounding area was shrouded in darkness.  The crowd and priests stopped taunting Jesus and everyone became silent.  This darkness momentarily disappeared and Jesus exclaimed, “It is finished”.  Immediately, the darkness came again and a tremendous earthquake shook the entire area.  Upon watching this scene unfold, a centurion exclaimed, “Truly this was the Son of God”.  (more…)

The Final Controversy

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Hanging from the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished” and then he died.  Was this the end of the great controversy?  Unfortunately, it was not.  The great controversy began in heaven when Lucifer declared that God was not fair.  Lucifer alleged that God’s laws were impossible to keep.  As a result, Lucifer was thrown from heaven and banished to earth, the only world that fell for Lucifer’s deception.  (more…)

Are You Saved?

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

This morning I read the story of Jesus’ crucifixion.  While reading the story I wondered where I would have been if I had been alive during the crucifixion.  Would I have made fun of Jesus?  I’d like to think that I would have been one of the few mourning the tragedy; however, I know that without Jesus in my heart, I’m capable of anything.  (more…)
